City of Morro Bay and Chamber of Commerce Work Together to Continue to Provide Services to Residents and Local Businesses
Morro Bay, CA – As of 5:00 pm Thursday, March 19, 2020 San Luis Obispo County is under a Shelter at Home Order due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. This order is in effect until at least April 17, 2020, at which point it will be reviewed to evaluate the need to continue.
As such, City facilities are currently closed to the public until further notice, except for the Fire station lobby (for wellness checks). City staff continues to work and provide services, however, in some cases our staff may be working remotely. Please understand during this order period that messages, either voicemails or e-mails, will be returned as quickly as possible.
The City will be continuing to provide the following services during this period:
Fire Services: Emergency response as normal.
Police Services: The Police Department is responding to all emergency calls for service but have suspended all non-essential services at this time. Non-essential services include live scan, citizen ride a-longs, all meetings held within the department, ticket signoffs, lobby assistance (lobby has been closed).
The City is asking citizens to request phone reports in lieu of an officer responding to the residence or location when appropriate. Dispatch can assist with accessing the need for an officer response.
A. Full response to all ocean, bay, beach and waterfront emergencies or urgent/public safety calls.
B. Modified response to waterfront medical aid calls, restricted to assisting MBFD in a secondary role.
C. Regular bay patrols but limiting contacts and interactions.
D. Not performing any non-essential activities or requests from the public, other agencies.
E. Performing a warn-and-advise role (following MBPD’s lead) for any gatherings or business activities that violate the county order, with assistance from MBPD where necessary.
Transit: Morro Bay Transit will remain in operation with existing days/hours/routing. This is subject to change as conditions change.
Utilities (Water, Sewer and Wastewater Treatment Plant):
Normal services provided
Parks will remain open but recreational components will be closed, including play structures, the skate park, tennis courts, and pickle ball courts.
Public restrooms that will remain open include Del Mar, Cloisters, and Tidelands Park, with portable restrooms and hand washing stations provided at Harbor, City Park and the Morro Rock parking lot, Centennial park and Lila Keiser.
All other City restrooms will be closed. Park trash pick-up will occur as normal.

The City will be continuing to facilitate the normal development process on a limited basis, by appointment, from 8:00-12:00 Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The City’s “Morro Bay Cares” program is offering a variety of services, including R.U.Ok (Are you ok?) in which you can sign up for daily wellness calls, and a list of open restaurants providing meal take-out, pick-up and delivery services.
