Community Outreach
Overview
The Morro Bay Police Department (MBPD) takes pride in coordinating numerous community events that raise funds for charity and promote the community partnership. To find out more about any of these programs, call the MBPD at 805-772-6225.
Special Olympics Torch Run
Members of the MBPD get pledge donations and run a 3-mile leg of the Special Olympics Torch Run to raise funds for Special Olympics. In addition, the MBPD hosts an annual Tip-a-Cop Dinner where officers and employees serve up meals and donate all the tips to Special Olympics.

Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
Each year, the Morro Bay Peace Officers Association, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Morro Bay, coordinate a community Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner attracts hundreds of local citizens and a great time is had by all.
Caroling Cops
Police employees and members of the community join Santa on the Trolley and drive all the streets in Morro Bay handing gifts to kids. This is the only such event in the County. In addition, our officers collect dozens of toys and bicycles and take them to needy families at Christmas time. Last year, over 100 toys were delivered to several families in Morro Bay.
Ride Along Program
The MBPD offers a Ride Along Program to residents that allows for the unique opportunity of riding with an officer on patrol. Residents can complete an application at the Police Station.
Coffee With a Cop
Coffee with a Cop brings Police Officers and the community members together over coffee to discuss issues and learn more about each other. We meet quarterly at local coffee shops. We supply the coffee, you supply the conversation.
Halloween Haunted House and Trunk or Treat
We held the first Halloween Haunted House in 2017. We had such a great response from the community that we have made it a new annual event. Come if you dare....
Tip a Cop
We have put twist on the nation wide Special Olympics Tip a Cop event. Community members can pre-order a Tri-Tip BBQ lunch and then pick it up at the Police Station or we can deliver local.
National Night Out
MBPD participates in the national community building event that happens every year in August. We have music, food, games and local agency demonstrations/displays. Morro Bay Harbor Department and Coast Guard are in partnership with our event to make it a fun event for everyone in the community.
Child Safety Guide
MBPD cares about the safety of your children. Kids don't come with handbooks on how to raise them and keep them safe but ConsumerNotice.org has a guide that covers baby-proofing, food safety basics, toy risks and more.
