Commercial Slips
There are only 50 slips that the City of Morro Bay operates directly and those slips are rented to commercial vessels as defined in
Section 15.04.150 (PDF) of the Morro Bay Municipal Code and in
City Resolution No. 23-91 (PDF).
Each year vessels occupying a City slip must qualify as a commercial vessel to retain their slip for the next year. In general, vessels must provide proof of fishing via fish tickets with vessels measuring twenty-six feet or less, gross earnings or fish sales totaling a minimum of $5,000 and vessels measuring greater than twenty-six feet in length, gross earnings or fish sales totaling a minimum of $10,00 per calendar year. Combinations of days fishing and fuel use may also be used - see
Resolution No. 23-91 for details.
Slip Fees
Slip fees are based on the overall length of the vessel or of the slip, whichever is greater and are due in advance. The year is according to the City Fiscal Year (July 1 - June 30). In addition, for slip holders who will be out of their slips either for repairs/maintenance or fishing out of the area, there is a 75% reduction in the monthly rate provided the slip holder notifies the Harbor Department 2 weeks prior to the month the vessel will be absent. The form is available below. This reduction is only available for the calendar month. Any time a commercial slip is vacant, the City Harbor Department controls which vessel may occupy the slip on a daily or monthly basis.
