The City’s primary water supply is provided through the State Water Project, and from time to time the state water system experiences algae growth (Geosmin) in their water system mostly in the reservoirs and open canals. Geosmin is not toxic or harmful in any way. However, it results in a change of taste and odor, usually imparting an earthy smell to the water. The water is SAFE to drink. To reduce the level of taste and odor customers can run their drinking water through a water filter, such as the name brand Brita filter, which is a carbon filter. This will remove much of the taste and odor. The State is keeping us informed on this issue and ensures us they are taking all necessary steps to alleviate the taste and odor issues as soon as possible.
