SYTIS Donates Thermal Cameras to Morro Bay Fire Department

Morro Bay - The Morro Bay Fire Department was recently donated three PTZ Cameras from the San Luis Obispo based-company SYTIS. Installation of the first camera is tentatively scheduled for Friday October 17th. These PTZ cameras utilize thermal imaging and infrared technology coupled with AI software to automatically detect fire. These cameras have the ability to detect a 1 meter by 1 meter fire from up to five miles away. We are excited to implement this technology to enhance the safety of our community members and visitors. The cameras will be placed at two fixed locations in the city to optimize views of the open space on black Hills for wildfire detection, and to view the harbor for detection of fires in the harbor.  These cameras may also be useful for locating climbers on Morro Rock during a search and rescue, or victims in the water during ocean rescue incidents. One camera will be installed on a Morro Bay Fire Engine for use on emergency incidents to enhance the safety of crews performing their duties. We are grateful to SYTIS for this generous donation and excited to see how this emerging technology can enhance the safety of Morro Bay. A press release from SYTIS can be viewed here.
