Annual State Water Maintenance Shutdown
The State Water project is the primary source of drinking water for the City of Morro Bay. Each year the State Water project shuts down for maintenance of various systems and facilities. This year the shutdown is anticipated to run from October 30, 2018 until November 19th.
During the shutdown the City will use our groundwater wells from the Morro Valley. Due to the level of nitrates in this aquifer this water must be treated prior to distribution to the residents. The City treats this water at its Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) treatment facility to remove the nitrates prior to distribution. Also, during this time the water department will be using “free Chlorine” for disinfection, in lieu of Chloramination. The water distributed will meet all treatment and drinking water standards.
The City would also like to say a big THANK YOU to the residents who have been conserving water!! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Public Works Department at 772-6261.
